Home-Made Nutella

Love the taste of Nutella but hate the amount of sugar and Palm oil they use? This is our version of Home-made Nutella

Ingredients:
230 g Hazelnuts (skinless if possible)
80 g Cocoa powder (Dutch processed)
140 g Powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of Hazelnut oil (or coconut oil)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (not mandatory)
1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions:
1) In case you bought skinless hazelnuts, good for you, and continue to the next sten. In case you did not you have to do the hard work and get rid of the skin. This can simply be done by bringing about 1 l of water to a boil, adding a tablespoon of baking soda and then boiling the 230 g of Hazelnuts in the water for approximately 5 minutes (longer if skin still adheres to tightly)
After boiling put the nuts into ice cold water and rinse of the skin. (if the water is not helping much you have to do the chore and do it with your own fingers. That is what happened to us)

2) Preheat the oven to 190° C. Line a baking tray with baking paper and roast the 230 g of hazelnuts for approximately 15 minutes. This will increase the aroma and make the finished product taste much more like hazelnuts.

3) Add the baked hazelnuts to a food processor (standing mixer is also OK) and mix thoroughly until you get something resembling peanut butter (this didn't happen in our case as the hazelnuts were the cheaper kind with not so much oil inside them).

4) To the mixer add 50 g of Dutch processed cocoa powder and 140 g of powdered sugar (or equal part sugar supplement) and mix again.

5) Finally during the mixing add 1/8 of a teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons of hazelnut oil and a teaspoon of vanilla extract (not necessary) and mix until incorporated.

6) After everything is thoroughly combined pour the Nutella into a sealable (best airtight) container. To keep the Nutella fresh for a longer period of time you can store it in the fridge but don't forget that it will get much more solid and harder to spread

In case you already know this recipe and you are just looking for inspiration on how to change it up, try adding coconut oil instead of hazelnut oil to the recipe. You will get a different taste which you might even like better than the original one)
